Software Compatibility
The Hazardous Materials Online Inventory Database (HMOIP) has been developed with the understanding that many businesses, industries and local agencies have existing data management systems and that in order to be effective the HMOIP would need to be compatible with these existing systems.
To accomplish that goal the HMOIP was designed to allow easy importing and exporting of data via the use of tab-delimited text files. Facilities or local agencies can export data from their systems, format the data in a tab-delimited text file and upload the data in the field sequence specified in the HMOIP system. Conversely, information can also be downloaded from the HMOIP system in the same manner and imported into a facility's database or a local agency's database.
Importing and exporting data into and out of your local system may require some initial set up. You may need to work with your software vendor or your IT staff to do an initial set up, but from then on the transfer of data should be very easy and very quick.
Current Vendor Activities
Some vendors have volunteered to develop data transfer instructions or utilities for their products to improve functionality for their clients (both industry and regulatory agencies) that wish to use the Unidocs HMOIP system. This benefits both the local agency and the business/industry/consultant user. It can avoid duplication of entry, allow the use of the HMOIP hazardous materials database for chemical classification and reporting purposes and enhance emergency response capabilities in the event of an hazardous materials incident.
The following vendors have developed or are working with us to develop data transfer instructions or utilities. Note that absence from this list does not mean that other systems are incompatible. Check with your vendor or contact us.
